There are reported cases that has been linked to the spread of powerful “superbugs” outbreaks in other countries through endoscopy procedures. In order to  re-enforce the  preventive measures, the Bhutan Medical and Health Council would like to remind all Surgical Specialist, Gastro-entorologist & Medical Specialist (those granted privileges to perform gastrointestinal endoscopy  procedures) to use extra caution in disinfecting a hard-to-clean medical scope  and staff assisting in any setting where gastrointestinal endoscopy is performed must adhere to infection control principles that will maintain a safe environment, free from the possibility of spreading disease to patients. Proper reprocessing of endoscopes and accessories is critical to the safe and successful treatment of patients.

It is advisable if 2% Gluteraldehyde solution must be changed after processing 20 endoscopy procedures or every 14 days, whichever is earlier. Please kindly follow both national guidelines and the sterilization standards as per manufacturers’ instruction.
